Great expression and interesting subject, but I don't get a strong sense of failure. It looks like he got what he was after. Also, one more light set up to give the hair some detail would have helped out tremendously.
nice shot, I think the focus is awesome and the ripple in the water is great, maybe a larger crop and maybe a shirt on the kid would make this photo better for me, but overall, I think you did a really nice job
