I was trying to show the heritage and beauty of East Tennessee and the Smoky Mountains. This shot was taken in the open air museum.
I didn't realize I had ISO at 200 or I would've lowered it. Focus isn't as crisp as it could be due to the wide aperture, but I think it looks ok soft. It actually looks even better with a gaussian blur layer in soft light.

Ironically I just read your CC for the horse shot 5 seconds ago
I thought it would be an opportune time to sneak in one myself, and BAM! I get yours :)
Composition - Great. Should I elaborate? I think the way this is framed in by the trees makes this one something special. The colors are very nice. The tree down in front of the building makes it seem a little more reclusive than it really is. And then you put the deer into the picture. That is just the icing on an already tasty cake. The only gripe I have about this picture is that the deer is facing away. Maybe if you would've shouted his name he'd have turned around and looked up. Just a thought :P
Technical - The soft focus isn't hurting a thing. It isn't but a touch soft, and also it is a very natural picture (like nature natural). My opinion is that those things can effective be left a little soft most of the time. I don't think your ISO 200 hurt a thing either. There isn't a bunch of noise or grain or anything. I think you might even be able to get away with switching this to sepia or B&W and it still be very effective. The exposure is right on, and like i said in the composition part, the framing is outstanding.
Overall - A very good picture. Nice composition and well executed. Not a lot that you could change on this one, or would want to for that matter. Excellent work and good luck on your future submissions - Bob
This makes me want to drop in for a drop of the hard stuff and to say how lucky they are for living in such well-kept peace and tranquility. Very luscious shot indeed.
Great colors! My "deer" shot for fauna was taken in fog and it showed - I prefer this actually! I wish s/he was facing the cam, but I realize how hard it is to 'place' elements the way you'd like in a shot like this. Nice! 9
5. Fits the theme well enough, and there are no blatant \'you suck!\' flaws to it, but neither does it really grab me for any reason at all. For reasons of composition, cropping, or subject choice, it\'s just a photo, and doesn\'t do especially much for me, aesthetically. Good focus, lighting, and color, though.
It might have been about the deer, or the building, but somehow managed to not quite be either.
Preserved disuse. God bless the dear deer and the photographer to graze here.
I can see it wasn't taken at 5 am, but it's hard to get an appt with wildlife these days, isn't it? Worthy and memorable capture. Glad you left her a lil room.
