Even before the end I can explain how this shot was born: I was at my wife's family place. There was thick fog, so after feeding my little boy I went out to reach the mountain pass in search of the sea of fog covering the plateau. Yes. The sea of fog was there.
So I started shooting some images. All of them pretty good but none of them 'special'. I was going back to my car when I saw this man walking, so I followed him and have been able to take 3 shots, this one was the last.
When he was away I tried to re-create the scene with my body in the frame, but the original one was better especially for the cloud/sun shape - you have to be lucky sometimes :)

Last but not least I have to say that I showed the image to a couple of friends - tanguera and pamb - those smart women had some important advice for me :)

I'm not sure which is more impressive... The image or the votes. Fantastic image, and it really rocked the vote. Congratulations one the Blue, the PB, and banishing all the trolls for a day.
Happy New Year Alessandro! It's so odd to see no votes from 1-5 on any image. A very rare occurrence for sure. Congratulations on this amazing photo and your new PB! I really like the way the sun actually looks like a real flare being shot off.
Wooooohooooooooo Alex!! Way-ay-aay to go! Congratulations on everything.
...and, you can stop now. I see no need for you to keep entering, what with all those 'not special shots' you're bound to capture in the future.... ha! ;D
Terrific leading lines with both the road and the cloud lines. Very dramatic in b/w too. Makes me want to walk along the road. :)My favorite in this challenge.
Alessandro, you have created an extraordinary image. The sense of scale, the perfectly placed cloud, the fog, and the lone hiker. To use one of your favorite words: EPIC
Simply incredible. This is by far the most on topic and well composed piece in this competition; so very well done. if the scale went to 20 it would be a 20.
A beautiful image with its undulations and fog and the man walking away from the viewer in the distance. The contrail even enhances the rayed sun. The figure-like silhouette on the hillside horizon adds a further note of mystery. One of my favorites.
