What an amazing morning for shooting. I noticed the sky losing cloud cover the night before, so I crossed my fingers that the sun would shine brightly in the morning. It did :)

I drove around (it was -15F, before the windchill, so hell if I was going to walk) some rural areas in search of early morning light scenes. I found so many great scenes, I want there to be a dozen challenges right now to fit them all in.

This one was one of my absolute favorites. This creek was wide open, and at this spot, fog/steam was pouring off of it. The interesting thing is that along the rest of the stream, that wasn't the case. The sun was in the perfect position to be somewhat blocked, which means it's easier to get a wider range of light. Still, I employed exposure bracketing to combine in HDR later.

As I said, I really love this shot. It's very likely to be printed on metal and hung on my wall.

Wow, gonna keep track of some milestones here. At 15 votes, I had an 8.07!! I have never seen a score this high with that many votes. I'm sure it will drop, but it sure is fun.

[Dec. 28th, 2013 12:33:10 PM]

30 Vote check in. Now it's at a 7.70. Still a great score! Hopefully it can stay up in that range for another ~70 votes.

[Dec. 29th, 2013 01:10:37 PM]

45 Vote check in. A little more of a drop. at 7.57. Votes 36-40 were particularly lower, bringing me down into this range. Obviously I'm still very happy. This is likely approximately the half way point for vote totals with recent voting trends. Let's see what the last half brings us.

[Dec. 31st, 2013 09:52:10 AM]

60 Vote check in. now at 7.51. Pretty steady for 15 votes. Would have been more steady if voter number 59 didn't give me a 4 :(

[Jan. 1st, 2014 08:56:34 PM]

75 Vote check in. What a sad set of voters :(.
Down to 7.40. I really hope the last 27 hours has a little happiness to bring this to be my highest ever scored image.

============

Well, here we have it! My highest scoring image ever! Still cannot achieve that blue ribbon for some reason. Oh well, I'm happy :)

Thank you all for the comments and votes.

Beautiful shot. Congratulations on the ribbon and new personal best. Given recent temps in the area this stream has got to be frozen thick by now.

If it wasn't for the challenge theme I would say too much sun. ;) But for this it works. Great composition and love the reflection.

Beautiful image. The sun, low in the sky, could easily be the solstice sun. The setting is sublime
