I purchased my first ‘real’ camera in 1997 – a Canon ElanII. Considering I was a relatively poor college student, spending 800.00 on a camera was a significant investment for me. Over the years however, I’ve only used it occasionally – it’s too bulky, and I couldn’t afford the constant cycle of buying film – taking mediocre pictures – getting film developed. I couldn’t afford to hone my skills – because I was nervous about every shot I took.
I purchased my first digital camera in March 2003 – a Canon PowerShot S45, along with a 128MB FlashCard. Now – the world is free and open to me. I can take photographs of anything and everything – experiment and hone my skills – get instant feedback – and all for NOTHING.
So, I’m here – to learn from those who have already gone down this path. I w ant to gain insight into the technical skills of photography, and I want to open my eyes to the constant cacophony of images begging to be laid on film – or bytes as the case is. I want to find a network of support and encouragement that will allow me to become the photographer I KNOW I can be.
