Wow, it's been a while since I've last been around. I've been on the site off and on since early 2003, bouncing between basic and full membership. I've not felt particularly inspired to get out and shoot until just recently, and hope to make another foray into the challenges here.
I have enjoyed photography as a hobby for nearly 30 years now, starting with an old 110 camera in 4th grade that belonged to my mom and progressing to the typical photo class and B/W work in high school with a hand-me-down Yashica SLR from my dad. I've been enjoying the flexibility afforded by shooting digital for nearly 10 years now, starting with a great point-and-shoot and eventually saving up enough cash to progress to my current DSLR and a small but growing collection of lenses.
I am particularly intrigued by objects from our past, especially bridges, farms, barns, mills, mines, and their associated structures and equipment and enjoy striving to capture their history. I'm not as familiar with the location of as any many of those structures here in Iowa, but there are plenty of exciting farms, old structures, and beautiful scenery that I've discovered in the past five years. I really just need to get out and start exploring again.
Like most everyone else here, I am working to improve my skill as a photographer. I hope to someday perhaps equal the work of others here-- the bar is indeed high.
