I first picked up my father's Argus 35mm in 1973, when I took a high school photography course (I still have the Argus). Over the years I graduated to Nikon SLRs, RB67s, A Calumet 4x5 view camera and a Kodak 8x10. Each stage brought its own challenges and joys. Although I never had the nerve to quit my job and 'go professional', I worked with and learned from some fine masters, and earned enough part-time to be nominated for, and accepted into, the local PPA as an 'associate' member.
I laid down my camera for several years, tiring of all the labor involved in producing a fine print, and tiring of the demands of shooting for other people. When the digital cameras became of sufficient quality, however, I was hooked again. I'm already looking to upgrade to a Fuji Finepix S3 Pro. I already have all the Nikon lenses, and I've been looking around for a retirement gift for myself *grin*.
Soon, I hope to have the time to devote more completely to photography, and in a more lovely environment than I live in, now.
Of course, I still need time to build hot rods. |
