I've been interested in photography as a hobby for a few years now but I still consider myself very much a novice. I started with a Canon EOS 300 35mm film camera but moved to a Powershot S30 and then S50 as soon as I was able to afford digital. Most recently of all I bought an EOS 10D with the intention of really learning something about photography. I take a lot of photos when I'm working on a challenge. I still don't feel I know how to get the effect I'm intending so to some degree I allow the shot I submit to be guided by what appeals to me as I work on the challenge. Often ideas present themselves once I've arranged my shot.
I live in Cheshire, England and it's one of my ambitions to capture some of the essence of my beautiful rural county in photographs.
I'm a programmer and small business owner by day and, some years ago, I was told that because I was a scientist I could never be an artist. From that day to this I have tried hard to put my finger on what it means to become an artist and then become one. I figure I'm maybe 30% of the way there.
