I live in northern Virginia, and I'm a print production artist and copyeditor in Washington, D.C. and online. My father spent decades as a serial hobbyist; he used to become interested in something, buy all the stuff for it, and get good at it, then move on. Photography was one of the longer-lived hobbies, and when I took my first photography class in the ninth grade, I had a nice Honeywell camera—and a full darkroom setup in our upstairs bathroom at home. Needless to say, no one else had their own enlarger, and I was a showoff. A couple of years later (1990), I went to the Soviet Union, and my father bought me a Ricoh Mirai SLR. That camera was the only one I owned until August of 2003 when I got my first digital. I take pictures these days in hopes that I will be able to create new memories like those I have from taking pictures with my father. |
