I still have not invested in a proper light setup. But anyway, what is proper? For this shot I went overboard and made three wood letters. I have this old small flash which still works and I rolled up a newspaper to make a snoot to achieve some sort of intimate, pointed light. I put the exposure to 4 seconds and while the light in the room was out I exposed with one manual flash from 1 m distance from the left side. I pretty much achieved what I set out for except the shadows turned out a little harsher than I would have wished for. So this is my third entry and I am happy that I made it and I am not too fussed about the score that this will get. All editing was done in ACR and the size was reduced in CS5 and was there also saved for the web. Ps I had the shot already done a day before but my wife alerted me to the fact that the S was not the right way around (of course neither is the E) and I re-shot the whole lot.
Upon reading the challenge again I realise that I have misread the details... I think I should have made letters out of different props... ah well. One learns and moves on.
