I was working in the Times Square area for several days which I used as an opportunity to try some street photography (of course!). I encountered this big crowd at just about the same time two motorcycle policemen did. One of them got off his bike and went thru the crowd to see what was going on that people were gathering for. I couldn't see what they were gathered to watch because there were too many people in front of me, so I raised my camera above my head (set on continuous focus) and snapped this shot. I wish I could tell you exactly what was going on before this shot, but I myself don't know. He was a street performer, though, and must've been a pretty good one to draw such a crowd. I left shortly after this shot, as I couldn't see anything more. Now I'm wishing that I'd stayed and taken more shots!

Thanks for the description. He kinda looks like a Michael Jackson look-alike! Maybe he or she? was singing Billie Jean and shrieking or something and the cop wanted to know if he tools his psych meds that day?
This could be either very good or very dire. There is palpable tension and the viewer is left to wonder whether the officer is there to participate or to arrest. Wonderful pp'ing, and a splendid moment in the Big Apple
