It was on our annual 'boys' trip that we were lucky enough to run into a pride of lions. Mabuasehube in Botswana is an amazing place, no game fences, no fenced camping area and it's lion country. After 3 days of only seeing glimpses of lion and hearing a couple of 'interesting' stories we drove into the middle of this pride as we turned a corner in the dirt track.
Needless to say, with two trigger happy photographers in the vehicle we spent over 2 hours watching the pride lazing in the hot Kalahari shade only meters away. This young male was by far the most photogenic.

Thilo, really good result in the years toughest FS.
Whilst I thought this Lion was photographed in the bush, I refrained from expanding my comments more than what you see below as there are so many captive Lion shots online that it is hard to be sure. I did however put my money where my mouth is and gave this an 8. 1 off for the cropped ears and one off for the lack of engagement with the camera. 8 for exposure, colour, tones, great dof and detail on the eyes and what I believed to be a Lion in the African veld.
I noticed you only found useful those comments that expounded beyond "nice shot".
Across the wild Savanna's spread,
deadly paws in silence tread.
The hunt begins with the chase
the lion pride keeping pace
until prey falls to their embrace.
Great details in the fur coat and face of this predator! Love the colors and details. She looks as if she is scanning the horizon for the pride's next dinner.
