Galleries: Family, Black and White Date Uploaded: Aug 23, 2004 Add photograph to your favorites Add photographer to your favorites	Although it may be cliche, a child learning to do anything, but especially becoming mobile and gaining the incredible amount of independance that achieves, is all the hope they need. Editing included grey scaling, contrast/brightness, sharpen, slight cropping.

Thank you Ironworker and elru21 for your post challenge comments, they were really helpful :) I'll touch on a couple things:

Wider shot - I wanted this too, however, the baby can't walk yet and I had her mother (The girl holding the arms out is her sister) holding on to the baby on the left side.. so I had to crop it where I did to disguise that, sadly.

B&W - Yah, the black and white looks off to me now too.. too contrasted. I wanted the background dark because of the clutter, but at the time I had nowhere else to shoot it.. thems the breaks! :)

So, these are things I will for surely be working on in the future, and thanks again for commenting! It makes a newbie feel really good :)

I liked the the emotion the shot evoked. I liked the B & W aspect as well. Conveyed a better feeling.
A wider shot showing more of the mother, & baby would have made it better. I gave it a 7.

I noticed that you only got one comment during the challenge, so I wanted to add one for you. I think it is the background that makes this look like a snapshot. It is messy and busy and a little too shadowed. The b&w seems little off, but I am not an expert on this. There are many on this site who could give great advice on this. A smaller critique is that it is cropped a little too tight on the left side, I think. I really like the composition with the baby in the upper corner and the mom's arms reaching out for her. It is a great capture of the baby's expression. For the challenge, it definitly does say "hope" to me. Because of the technical problems, I gave it a 5. These are just my amateur impressions, but I wanted to give you some more feedback. - Liza
