What really makes this shot appealing to me is the reflections on the game pieces. I think I would have liked to have seen even more reflections, especially on the top of the "horse" piece.

Much too dark to enjoy the beauty of the chess set and board. Reflection is distracting. Don't like the landscape shot for this. 4 PTL

Maybe more light and more DOF, you have two pieces and the one in back, being part of your subject, needs a little more focus.
