The emphasis of this shot is on the landing, not the stairway; my eye is drawn straight away to the bright red component in the centre of the image. Perhaps a different crop, showing more of the stairs, would be more effective here.

The aspect ratio does not work for me. Although it does give a sense of constriction, the extremely narrow crop is a detriment for me.
