Not sure about the "creatively compose" part, but I always get a kick out of entering an 'almost' basic legal picture in expert. . . .

Nice focus and DOF, looks fine technically and certainly fits the challenge; it's just not a very interesting subject for me personally, as it is. Perhaps a more colourful pen like a bright felt-tip would have brought a little more pop to the shot.

I like the idea. I bet this could have worked really well with a calligraphy pen to give extra class to the photo.
