This photo was made at Occupy Washington, D.C. at McPherson Sq. A friend of mine and I were returning from dinner, and decided to stop by. I had shot in this area before, so was kind of familiar with the layout of things at the protest site.
The protesters had erected a large wooden structure, and the police were tearing it down during the time I made this photograph.
I saw these two start a conversation in a less-than-friendly manner, one heated over the police being there, and the other irritated by being worked overtime for a protest. Eventually, like most reasonable human beings, they found a common ground and started to discuss family. When I heard this change, I immediately moved into position to take several shots, this one in particular saying the most to me, and hopefully you!

I agree with Lev and with tnun. This is a superb photojournalism picture Quincy. Congratulations on a wonderful, durable photograph. Thank you.
ETA: Hope you won't think this a frivolous observation, but from a street photographer's point of view, a particular charm of this photograph is that these two guys share almost exactly the same nose! That kind of subliminal echo is what separates the extraordinary from the ordinary in our secret little corner of photography.
To Lev, ubique, and tnun,
While I already have a special connection to this image, as I feel it has been and continues to be the strongest entry in this aspiring PJ's portfolio, each and every comment I receive like this gives me a refill on inspiration. It's much more than just a "nice shot!"...it's like being slapped with a motivational hand to the face. For that, you have my endless thanks regarding your comments and compliments.

They generally are, I really like this shot because of the smiles sending a different message than what is shoved down all of our throats daily. Try selling this shot to the media though *que comedy drum* :) Great shot, good luck in the challenge!!!
Thanks, Shutter. As soon as I noticed these gentlemen talking, that's the exact goal I had in mine: putting a positive spin on things! Too much negativity in our day to day, and while there are certainly things to be upset about in the world, you have to count your blessings too...and laugh a little.

Thanks everyone who voted! I think the favorite thing I see about the votes is that no one voted it a 9. I like this, because whoever really loved this image was like 'OH YEAH, 10!" hahaha. I'm proud to be in the top 100.
you've caught a moment of communication well here, they seem to have their own isolated rapport while the rest are completely oblivious to it, well done and good luck with it
