Oh well, so many ideas and not enough time (or skill) to pull them off. I really like Burton’s movies, as with the rest of my family, so I wanted to enter this challenge. My daughter was as helpful as ever but I rushed the setup, taking and processing of the shot. There are so many flaws (sticky tape on the eyes, shadows etc) and a lack of imagination that I know this will finish low in the challenge. That being said, I do like the image as a whole and I’m proud to enter it.
I mucked around with my trial version of Topaz B&W getting the contrast that I wanted then introduced transparency to recover some colour. I feel this worked better that just desaturating the image.

OMG! When ‘disassociation’ made her comment I was sure that she was mistaken but I had to check. You see my daughter owns the movie and it says clearly on the cover “From the Director of ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’”. I also looked at images to get ideas from //www.google.com.au/search?q=coraline+tim+burton&hl=en&prmd=imvnsfdo&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=Kb3QTo7bKOjhmAXMg7XVDQ&sqi=2&ved=0CGkQsAQ&biw=1280&bih=595
Alas, I have made a monumental error (not my first – refer to the John Lennon challenge). Coraline was not a Tim Burton film!! The image is DNMC! You couldn’t even say it was a Shoehorn attempt. There’s even a good chance this will make my profile page to remind me and everyone else what a goose I am. Mind you, I’m finding it a bit strange that at 71 votes it’s sitting on 6.2254 when it is DNMC.
Thankyou ‘disassociation’ for educating me on the importance to conduct a proper research when using the web. Well, at least it’s a shot that I quite like to look at :-)

i still thought this was very well done! and its a common mistake, i just like to see neil gaiman/henry selick get their fair due :) congratulations on scoring so well regardless!
I'm sure someone has told you by now that Tim Burton didn't work on Coraline. But Coraline was created by Henry Selick, and Henry Selick is often considered to have a similar style to Tim Burton. So I personally would say this matches the challenge nicely. I hope you don't get many DNMC's. I like the lighting and processing.
