Taken during a Veterans Day ceremony. I only got one shot of him with the flag waving behind him. This was right at the end of the ceremony, the second to last shot I took during it, so I didn't have as much time as I would have liked to get a better background. I had to use a vignette to cover the blown out part behind to the left.
The colors and detail in his face was achieved by making a BnW adjustment layer and applying it in multiply.

I don't know this man's name. Right after I took this photo, I noticed that the family I had just photographed was leaving, so I ran to grab their names, assuming he would hang out after the ceremony, but by the time I got the names of the family members, he was gone.
A black and white version of this photo ran very big (about a sixth of a page) in the Veterans Day issue of the newspaper I work for. It wasn't until I saw the image in print that I realized how good it was. Luckily, I saw it on the last day to enter for this challenge, so I had time to get it in.
