Just kidding about the sledgehammer.
I spent forever trying to create the ends... silly me... all I had to do was photograph them and put them in (which I did).
Add in cracks and tops of lowest bricks in the opening, edit twelve billion times to get it as believable as my talents will allow.
Submit.
Rethink it all... change out edit forty times...
Submit.
*sigh*
What a mess! LOL!
I'm so thankful that I didn't have to read any of Poe's stories for this. I don't enjoy darkness.

During: It's interesting that most are commenting on the model's expression.
I think it's interesting because... I think the expression is what sells me on this "made up" image.
He's behind a wall, being walled in to his death. He's given up hope of survival. He's still working, but resigned to his fate. At this point, there is no great emotion.
A photographer catches his eye. He looks... but the despair is there... he can only meet his eye. Nothing more.
He's still working, knowing that he will die. And, no camera will create any more emotion from him. It is what it is.
Resignation.
As my 5.3 has me... resigned to mediocrity. *sad smile*

An excellent and very powerful image. Back to comment and bump. The tonal range and the young man's expression, especially his eyes, are great and I like the overall cohesiveness in the picture's tonal range and palette. The unusual position you chose for his hands feels a little strange /unnatural, especially the top one, but I've decided that actually adds something to the image.
I feel that the potential for a fabulous image is in this capture. But the lighting is too flat, the model has no expression of any sort, the hands do not convey any emotion. I do think more dramatic lighting and/or processing would have helped, but the model needs to sell the story.
nice set up and technicals but the models expression (and the flat documentary lighting) seem more in keeping with the boredom of demolition than the horror of being sealed within a wall.
