Heartbreaking. This reaches beyond words. IMO, the perspective is part of what gives this its impact. Isn't this the perspective of the person about to pick up the baby that isn't there? The strict centering, the almost drawing-like lines, the framed bib & booties, the colorful quilt, etc. - everything is there, except... Ache.
I have been wondering why this is so effective, why I couldn't bring myself to comment. The extraordinary precision delivers a finely wrought tale, where the concentration on detail is a meditation on acceptance of the unacceptable. For some reason I am reminded of Rilke. in the Duino Elegies, a strangely abstract exhortation to plunge into the particular.
This is intense.
I really like this shot, because it sorta puts the viewer on edge. I like that it feels a bit underexposed, it adds to the mood.
Personally, I disagree with the comment about the title. I always view titles secondary to the image, and I knew exactly what this was about before reading the title. If anything, I think the title itself doesn't quite carry the gravity that the picture holds. The perspective is really nicely chosen. Great work.
I really appreciate the effort to convey the concept, and the idea is also pretty unique in this challenge. However, I actually had to read the title to grasp the idea. Different people might find it much more immediate than I did, though. Well done!
This is the 72nd image I have seen in this challenge, and is the one I am struggling the most with. The majority of images in this challenge are poor quality and there are quite a few that do not meet the challenge. That was my first instinct on seeing this (I tend to view images without looking at the title to avoid shoehorn images). I saw no baby so was about to mark it as a DNMC, but then I saw the title and really looked at this image. Whilst not the most technically adept image on show in the challenge, it is without doubt the most touching and thought provoking.
