Made a mess,
I figured most entries would be still lifes, so I went "outside the box (of wine)"
[Sep. 19th, 2011 05:46:35 AM]
I didn't break any glasses with this shot!
The cork is glued to the glass (was it that obvious?) and the liquid is actually grape soda. I painstakingly drilled a hole in the the base of the bottle, put a 1/8" slice of cork in the top to keep the soda in, and fed the grape soda in through the hole.
Oh, this is all vertical BTW, the glass was actually sideways, attached to a door. I rotated the image later.
I put air pressure to the hole which fired out the slice of cork (behind the wine glass), with my grape soda, and the "pop" fired my audio trigger to the flashes... (the cork is slightly "blurry" because it is obscured by the soda flying past...
I estimated the "wine" to be exiting the bottle at 250 ft/sec. With a 1/4000 max shutter speed on my camera, that would still be 3/4" of motion... I used 3 second shutter speed ;-) (PS my strobe fires at 1/20'000 sec.) The cork was not moving, at ALL ;-)...
Thank you for the comment and I hope you enjoyed my imagination (even a little :-)

Wow! Quite a capture! Either you shot in burst mode or you have an enviously precise shutter finger : ) The detail of the cork hitting the glass is awesome. Did the glass survive?
I like it. Looks like the cork glued to the glass, and a hose of regular water spraying out, and the glass could be a bit more in focus; but I like the colors and composition. Good job.
LOL super idea. Very creative. Just falls short in the sharpness department, i.e. the green bottle. But this could be attributed to the explosion :) Love the way the cork "splattered" on the glass. Cropped a bit too high though.
Still I think it has the 0.5 second impact (pun intended) you sought and was no doubt technically difficult to pull off.
