I can see now how the scratches might look like spider webbing. The magnifying glass is part of the compass and I was thinking that catching the light sideways in it would be a nice emphasis, but now that I imagine the image without it I can see how it could be distracting. Thanks for the comments.

I'd have cleaned off the spider webs on the compass... doesn't add to rest of photo. Good focus and composition. Glass object to left side is distracting from the rest of the background.
