 Hints and Tips for Successful Sports Photography

Some good tips, but some of the pictures aren't all that good, ironically -- especially the soccer one at the end.

Based on that tutorial, I did some things right -- tight crop, caught the "conflict," showed the face, showed the ball, caught the "action."

Stupid chain link fences.

I was standing at the fence with my lens hood less than an inch from the fence. I would put the hood *on* the fence but errant balls would hurt me. :)

That is excellent! How far back from the fence were you standing? Usually I use my 70-300 to get the pitcher at the mound and get close to the fence so I am shooting thru a gap. I have not been able to get good action shots like this at the plate from this perspective.
