These are genuine alley cats living in an industrial area of Chicago. The black one is missing part of his ear. They eyed me very suspiciously. Some good soul is setting out food and water for them.
The clipped ear may indicate the cat has been spayed or neutered. I know that's how they mark them in Italy so they know not to catch that one again. A very tender shot and oh so lovely in black and white. You really are one of the best at monochrome here.

As to the ear, I knew that if a stray cat was caught and fixed, they clip its left ear. My son got one with a clipped ear. So this was one lost and found and lost again.
oh damn, this is perfect. no pun. do it big, hang it in a gallery, let it be famous, and send little prints to their momcats if they remember where they was borned.
