WOW! 83 x 10's. I wonder what the record is on DPC? There should be a Top 10/Top 50 list just for well erm most 10's :)
Truly wonderful shot, I doubt much if any HDR as 5 years later in 2009 it's almost impossible not to get a landscape PP by HDR...
From where did you take this shot? Do you know how lucky you were to get such a clear sky? Great pic of the mountain, though. I have yet to get one that nice.
I have to admit that I'm bummed that it's Tuesday night, because that means that this shot will soon be disappearing from the home page! Congrats again on an awe-inspiring shot.
Danny, could you please tell us what lens you used for this shot, and what the focal length was when you shot the photo? The depth of field is unbelievable.
Thank you.
Tara
You'll be even more surprised to hear that this was taken from a bus window. The driver pulled over so we could take a quick shot. I handheld a graduated neutral density filter over the lens. Here is some of the exif information from the shot.

Using your 'photographers eye' to share the magnificant beauty has produce an excellent picture, yet you have gone beyond that... it's Pure Art! Thank you for sharing this inspirational image!

I clicked on the thumbnail and switched screens while your image loaded, (56K dial up :P ) and when I clicked back over I couldnt believe what I saw. That could be the most beautiful shot I have ever seen on DPC. Nice work!
Well deserved ribbon, such tough competition for this challenge. It's the best image I've seen in a while, I think you can use this one for many other contests and do quite well.
This is the best work I have seen from you Danny, absolutely amazing! Congratulations on the win and for creating such a masterpiece. Respect! And to think you were thinking of giving up a couple of weeks back. I bet this has fired up your determination again! And you almost cracked the 8 barrier as well! If it weren't for those cowardly weasels who voted you "1"'s and "2"s you would have done it. My hat off to you Danny!
I hope this gets the blue ribbon it deserves. A spectacular capture of a peak that is frequently obscured by clouds... truly a once in a lifetime shot.
I cannot believe how sharp those mountains look, it really enhances the beautiful profile. The light and bright sky/mountains vs the darker foreground is wonderful. The touch of sunlight on the right front hill, the leading line of the road, the lighting as a whole and the cloud patterns finish it off: GREAT SHOT!
The only things I could think of adding is a car on the road with a dust cloud behind it or kicking some moose and get them to stand int the lower left third. :)
WOW!!!!! This is exquisite! Love the contrast between the blues of Denali and the green-browns of the foreground. This is such a beautiful capture of that incredible mountain! Great job!
I can't believe you were there when the weather permitted such a beautiful view of the mountain. I can only imagine the rest of the pics. Hope some are posted - I'll check after the challenge.
Had to look this up on Google to find out where it was! So did you climb Mt McKinley? This is a fantastic shot with the striking contrast in landscapes and beautiful lighting. I'm not sure how much post-processing you've done but it is subtle and only adds to the final image. Great capture.
Wow - I've been there but I've never got a photo like this one! I would very much like to know what sort of setup and post processing you used for this shot. 10
My favorite image in this challenge, great contrast, awesome lighting, cool clouds, perfect composition. My only concern is the vanishing point, not being a point. I hope you sell prints of this one.
Great job maintaining all the detail in clouds and snow. Must help to have a great subject "handy" -- for some reason snow-capped mountains (thankfully) haven't made it onto the DPC "Do Not Post" list : )
This is a lovely image! The light is very nice and the mountains in the BG are very clear and sharp. Meets the challenge well. Just curious - did you use Neat Image on this photo?
Wow, this is truly a journey of discovery. I like it that there is a reward at the end of the vanishing point after the experience, so to speak. And that reward (the mountains) is just spectacular. It's too bad that we can't have spot editing in this challenge as there is one glaring speck of dust in the sky that could have been cloned out (or cropped). Does it distract? Maybe to sensitive viewers. Hope you do well despite of it.
Crabby! If this isn't Mr. Blue - I will be totally surprised, shocked, and ticked. I'm in total awe of the shot - and like it both in B&W and in color. Way to go man - you nailed this one.
I can't help but wonder if you used a long shutter speed in this photo. I like the contrast of the greenish brown landscape against the blue-ish white mountain, but the dark clouds at the top of the pic are a bit distracting.
This must be one BIG mountain..judging by the foothills at the bottom which appear to be mountains in their own right.
Very impressive image..well composed and exposed.
superlative view. Technicaly the shot isn't all that for me - I think if you had waited / been there at another point during the day the light could have been more spectacular.
Having said that, the important thing is that you have seen and captured a superlative scene -for that my full makrs.
Wow!!! This is the first 10 I've ever given. That is a wonderful composition. Good color on land and very nice whites on the Mountain. The clouds cooperated a little too :)
wow, the mountain and the cloud look almost painted or somehow rendered on the image. the feel and the colour seem to vivid. and the convergence of the road lines on the horizon is superb. terrific shot.
the clouds look like they are the broad brush strokes of an impressionist painter, but the mountain is so crisp and the road so enticing...the colours are magnificent and the image is evocative. nicely done.
OMG!
This is breathtaking.
This is perhaps one of the most beautiful images I have seen in a very long time.
WIthout a doubt, a ((10)) and my pick for #1.
WOW !!!!! ... this is just unreal ... I know the road is the VP .. but I think the moutain over powers this image, same with the field and sky. While I would love to give this a 10 because this is a incredible photograph and my jaw dropped (I have a thing for mountains) .. I think I'm going to give an 8 b/c of the fact that VP isn't really obvious (right away I mean) ... maybe if you managed to have the road more in the middle of the photo .. sort of vanishing into the mountain .. not sure .. again WOW !
WoW! Great colors. the texture contrasts are stunning, love the great clouds against the mountain framed by the hills and the leading line off into the distance. Get the print ready on this one! There are so many good ones but too me this just stands above all the ones I've seen so far. 10!
Nicely done landscape. My only complaint it the small dot in the clouds, but since this is an open challenge w/o advance editing it's really a non issue. 8
Magnificent shot. I've been stuck looking at this image for a while now. It's making me very angry. I've been to Alaska twice now but have never made it to Denali. Right now I'm cursing myself for not spending the money. I predict a ribbon for this one. 10
