Little black sugar ants. If you live in California, these guys like to come in and find water this time of year. I was on a business trip when they came in and discovered my sugar bowl (they were quite delighted with that) and had set up a swimming pool/spa arrangement in my coffee maker's water reservoir. They live in one wall of my house, apparently. Had them in the upstairs bath earlier this week.
This particular batch have a trail going across my front sidewalk. So I went out after work on Friday with the 100mm and laid down and shot their little trail. They're still out there. As long as they stay outside, I'll let them be.
Processing is an action I got from someone here (I'm thinking either zigomar or iraklis) several years ago, and every now and then I remember I have it and that I like what it does. :-)
Yay! Another sub-50% entry! I'm on a roll. Not just anyone can do that, you know. I'd like to see Wendy or Christophe hit two 41% entries in a row... :-)
Incidentally, I still am finding ants in the coffee maker. I suppose they're a bit of added protein, yes?

I played around with a similar shot of ants on a tree (with the same lens :) ) but didn't get anything close to what I wanted. This exceeds what I was even trying for.
Well, I had no idea this was yours Deb, but it got a 7 from me :) Very refreshing not to have yet another macro/close up shot. Your comments made me smile :)
This is my most favorite shot of all, Deb. So different, so full of humor. It's as though they are suspended, yet part of a very specific time and place.
