This is my Yamaha YTR-734 trumpet from my high school and college playing days. It has pretty much sat in the case for the past 25 years, but getting a new lease on life as a subject for my photography now and then.
For this shot I stood the trumpet up on the bell in front of a window with white shear curtains. I used a silver reflector and some white board to bounce some fill light back onto the side opposite the window. The camera was on a tripod down low so I could get the angle that I wanted. Then I adjusted the aperture and ISO to get a long enough shutter speed to blow out the background plus get the DOF I wanted.
Thanks to everyone for the great comments and awesome score! I now have a new photo for my profile page!

As a trumpet player myself, I love this image. The silvery/white tones work great with the shadows and blacks. It seems like mostly a white image so you've got the high key down too. I hope this image does well.
