Looking at Henri's portfolio, I knew I would have to go outside my comfort zone and shoot people. I feel very self conscious when people see me pointing a camera about, so I tend to stick away from people as much as possible.
Saturday morning came around and I went to downtown Madison expecting to find some subjects at the farmer's market. I only had 20 minutes of parking time (without paying), so I walked around, took some shots, and ended up with only one that was ok.
Driving back I saw a number of people fishing out on some old railroad tracks. I stopped and got out my longest lens to see what I could capture. Nothing was very stunning. Then I saw this guy on the bank to my right, and went for it. The first shots weren't composed well, so I waited until his body position was correct and shot again. This is the result. I really enjoy how it came out, and my wife couldn't believe it was something that I photographed (a good sign!).
I really really wish I could have had a chance to play around with the contrasts and B&W conversion on this. I feel I got the composition and exposure spot on, now I want to play with the post processing to really make it shine.
