I filled some glasses with blue tinted water and floated a blob of sterno jelly in them. Placed on a mirror with a foam core backdrop, I lit the thirty second exposure with a flashlight filtered through a translucent blue file holder for a five count, then let the sterno be the only light for the rest of the exposure.
cropped and sent the image from lightroom to photoshop where I edited out some reflections that came through the imperfect seal of the garage door, and cleaned up some bubbles using healing brush. In layers I used topaz adjust to smooth and darken and used that layer at 50% transparency. I made another layer hue shifted to get some red back into the flame and masked that in over the flame. USM and saved for web, then denoised lightly and USM again.

P.S. The name references a bad novel/ movie from the 70s (the andromeda strain)where a man survived an infection from outer-space because his blood chemistry is messed up because he drinks sterno. Salute.

Hmmm... I really like the color palette, the reflection, the composition... but something about the relative intensity and softness of texture in the flame seems out of place with the rest of the image. Still like it a lot though.
Such a strange perspective, everything feels like its leaning forward. Everything is nice in this, color, crop, clarity, lighting. I'm sure you'll do well.
