This is the setup I wanted for the recent focal point image (or something like it anyway) but I was unable to find a feather so improvised with keys instead.
It'd be superb if this did as well, but I'd be very surprised if it did.

I simply cannot figure out what shots to enter here at all. I again, as I have done in many of my shots of late, need to thank Yo_Spiff and Bear_Music for recommending I enter this over another I was going to enter (and had indeed entered). I thought this was going to struggle to get to the region of 5 to 5.5... and now it's riding at a new PB...
I'm very happy with 17th position. I was initially hoping for a top 10 finish when I stayed consistent around 6.3/6.4 but then I noticed that there were 300 entries so flet it was unlikely.
Top 20 is the next best thing. Hey, I'm not complaining--top 20 with 329 entries, highest percentile finish, most favourites of all my images, and new personal best! Good challenge.
It was actually quite tough to get the lighting right in this. The difficulty was that I was in a dark room and wanted good light on my hand, but getting good light on that always seemed to blow out the feather. Eventually I just reduced and diffused the flashes I used. Took quite a few shots though. It would have been much easer had I someone else doing the magic on this one!

Well done. Nicely lit and great contrast to highlight the detail in the feather. The blur of the face really draws attention to the shallow focal depth and adds a bit to the story. Nice stuff.
Hey Niall! I can certainly see why this entry is getting you a PB...wonderful detail! Particularly in the creases on the hand between the fingers and in the feather itself. Only thing I didn't "like" was the half-a-head in the background.
