It’s the day before turnover and I’m doing very well, not sure where this will land, but it doesn’t matter because I’m over the moon with the score and all the comments. I prefer so many of the photos in this challenge to my own.
This was shot in an old and quite derelict house that i ‘m fixing up with a friend. The few props used were found lying around on site and the flowers were freshly picked from the garden. That’s Chris in the chimney, he was also featured in the Agoraphobia shot in last week’s free study, i think he prefers the photo shoots more than the usual backbreaking stuff we get up to.
My take on it: The guy in the chimney that’s us, we’re trying our best to climb inside and hide our heads in our small confined realities. The flowers represent our insatiable desires, our hardheaded dualistic opinions and the things that we cherish and think will bring us lasting happiness. The decrepit surrounds represent the impermanent and changing nature of everything and the inevitability of loosing it all. The guy in the window, he’s come to let us out, he knows its only by letting go and venturing out of our tiny worlds that we will find true peace. He’s been knocking on the door for ages so we can step into the vast outside, but his appearance is a bit frightening and foreign to us, so we don’t answer, preferring to stay hidden, and to keep clinging on in the illusory and supposedly secure worlds we’ve built, or something like that.
Really big thanks for all the generous votes and comments.

and congrats in the may fs .. that was an amazing image .. going back to make a comment ..
ps .. i love your style .. :)
Congrats on the ribbon and 3rd place by the judges. Not to take away from any of the honored images by the judges this is the only one I feel meets contemporary art. Again Congrats on an excellent image!
Story in a photo... Thumbs up for the great work you've done here. I am new in this site & I have browsed tens of posts but so far this is the best I have seen. Keep up the great work so we can learn from you...
That place sure does need a little work but what a great place for a photo shoot! I love your interpretaion and you realized it very well - congratulations on your ribbon!
Congratulations! I think I have a different interpretation and response to this image, every time I look at it.
Btw - colleague walked by this morning, saw your winning photo and said that this reminded him of the cover of Led Zeppelin's 4th album :). So I looked it up for you.
I'm extremely pleased that this won, and also quite pleased that my other 10 took 3rd, it's not often challenge entries land where I think they should.. :)
This is interesting. I love the set up and your arrangement of objects and the tulips. I don't really understand the title but I enjoy looking thru the scene while I try and figure it out.
This is excellent! It has a great sense of whimsy to it that I love. I also love the way you chose to frame it. And this place wherever it is looks like a fun spot to photograph. One of my top picks of the challenge!
This is striking me as gyabanesque, although jagar's recent winner also comes to mind. Of course, I'm notoriously awful at matching images to their photogs, and regardless, this is a top notch image.
Everything about it screams art to me - terrific imagination and creativity, amazing thought put into details and composition, masterful pp'ing. Absurdism meets surrealism, meets fantasy. My front page for sure, if not a ribbon.
So intriguing and interesting to look at. I am amazed how you managed to photograph this. It definitely seems more like a painting where one can place things whereever one wants, instead of a photograph. Remarkable!
A 10 from me, and I hope this does well for you
Is that Freddy Krueger in the lower left? LOL I like the tulip theme that runs throughout. This is bizarre and certainly befitting of the Fine Art category. I can see this hanging in an exhibit at a gallery. Upon review, I'm wondering if this would fit more into the "contemporary" category. Doesn't really matter because it's a discussion that can go on ad infinitum.
So wonderfully quirky! Love the colors, the processing, the texture, the Freddy Kruger type character peeking out the window, the story, and especially that tulip growing out of the wall! Awesome work! 10
Wow. This is something else. Incredibly creative, interesting story, a couple lifetimes of effort, and perfectly executed. This is quite a piece of work.
