Despite what some may think, this was not a deliberate shunning of the topic. The cement background would have been more obvious in color, but it never crossed my mind that a pigeon would be considered something other than urban! ;)
The dark bottom is asphalt. The lighter background is the cement of an overpass.

Now show me the birds in flight Ben! Never thought of pigeon being urban only. I think of them as messengers mostly (I'm always looking on the bright side) or cooked ("fillet de pigeons roti et foie gras"). The city ones are the parasites, going for a free lunch. Boy, you do have a tendency for opening great discussions! Your magnificent pigeon just stole a rose to deliver to the princess in the tower!
This is awesome! I'm afraid you won't do very well as their is no 'urban' aspect to it but this photo on the whole is amazing. The sharpness of his head in contrast with the flapping of the wings is fantastic. You've completely nailed the processing - Adding to fav's
Solo in an urban place? (This beautiful picture is for the next challenge, Birds in Flight). I don't want to be a pest, but are the challenges just slightly indicative and we can pick and chose one word over two? 9 for the picture, 1 for the challenge makes a 5
Cool shot! Love that swirly effect on the wing pattern. I admit I would like just a bit of urban context for this challenge, but pigeons are so stereotypically urban I may just let that slide ;-)
WOW What a gorgeous image! Perfect in black and white. Love the motion blur of the wings. The background just makes the bird stand out that much more. This lovely! And going in my favs!
Wow!!! This is one awesome capture! Though it's hard for me to decipher the urban setting, my mind is enjoying painting in the blurry details. Stunning!
tough to score this one. It is a lovely shot with real drama and stunning blur, but while I know this type of bird is largely an urban creature, there is nothing else in the frame to anchor the assumption.
FAR OUT ..!!!!!! .. what an amazing capture .. i'm nearly speachless .. but not quite .!!. looking forward to seeing the camera settings etc at rollover .. hope you do well .. i'm not voting .. :)
This is really a striking image. The movement in the wings is wonderful. My only gripe is that the challenge was Urban Nature, and all I really see here is Nature... I've looked at the image for awhile, but perhaps I'm just missing it. Still a beautiful image. 8
