I like the way the light travels down the center rows to the bright sky beyond, it kind of adds a positive note (ie: light at the end of the tunnel) and we sure can use some positives these days ;-)

Robert, Thanks for the comment and I agree the tones, patterns, and lines are broken abruptly by the surroundings. An interesting thing about Asia is a clash between urban and rural spaces. For the most part there are no suburbs and people live in dense villages or cities. My attempt was to show a looming presence of development against the simple beauty of these fields. I want to photograph stories and the rice field on its own, while beautiful, doesn’t tell the whole story. Thanks again for all your comments and contributions on here.

To me, the tree lines and the buildings are diluting the purity of an otherwise-fabulous image: if you pull just enough crop to eliminate everything but rice field, it jumps to another plane of excellence altogether. Fabulous tones.

This image makes me sad, as I am reminded of the Vietnam war. Funny how images are interwoven with specific memories.
