I've discovered that trying to get hair to lay the way I want it to is rather difficult. the picture came out close to what was in my head though. Using two Nikon SB-26s through umbrellas on both sides to get rid of shadows and get good high key lighting with the subject on the background. Also used a Canon flash on a camera bracket for a front light with the goal of a nice catchlight.
Editing:
Hair is on a layer to bring out the red a bit more. Just a push in saturation and hue. Some cloning out of stray hair.
Nails are on a layer as I wanted to change their color from a distracting bright red to the darker one.
Subject editing involves a bit of dodging to the eyes and cloning out of wrinkles and small blemishes.
Beyond that, a global temperature push for a very small bit of warmth, a small adjustment to curves, and a crop.
