Thanksgiving Square, located in the middle of downtown Dallas. The spiral building in the foreground is actually a chapel. I shot this during our monthly Flickr meetup, which for this month was an evening walkabout in Downtown Dallas. When I planned this meetup, I think I was overly optimistic about how much ground we could cover. We kept stopping to take photos every 15 yards (Duh!), so only made it slightly past the spot in this photo.
This was a 15 second exposure in near dark conditions. I'm surprised that this unique building is not lit up at night. The color version was all pale and yellow looking, but it really came to life as a black & white. This building already has a very retro-future look to it, and the office tower behind it picks that up with it's own unique look. I ran with that theme and tried to give the image a moody retro appearance, that I hope is reminiscent of the classic science fiction movie Metropolis.
Anticpated comments & critiques:
- Brian bvy is sure to guess this as my entry, due to the building in my shot which is a sibling to to one they have in Pittsburgh.
That, and he's likely seen it in my Flickr stream.
-Can't think of any real critiques, other than someone just may not care for it.
Post-challenge notes:
Did about what I had anticipated for such a heavily stylized cityscape. Early voting was high, however, so there was a bit of disappointment when the second and lower wave of voting hit.
On a more positive note, this shot was just nominated for "picture of the week" in the DFW Metro group on Flickr.
Update: This picture has now won picture of the week in the DFW Metro group on Flickr. I'm quite pleased with it. Might get a proper photographic print made of it.

Ha! bvy should have looked more closely. I didn't get to spend as much time with this Free Study as I would have liked, and so subtler things were lost on me. I recognized this as a well composed black and white study in urban forms and scored it accordingly. But, dammit, I missed the building.
In any case, that's not the first time I shot the Pittsburgh sibling.
