Just four hours before the submission deadline, I finally reduced my large batch of candidates down to 6 shots for the 2010-10 Free Study. This was one of them.
I've been noticing that late in the day, around sun-down, the Ravens/Crows make their way North/Northeast from/through my neighborhood. I've parked myself near a large street intersection (open sky) for an hour or more on a few occassions, getting shots of many as they flew overhead and stopped in nearby trees or on light posts.
It has been brutal practice trying to track them in-flight at full-zoom with the light fading. Every now and then I get a shot that makes me think, "wow". I'm usually reviewing shots on the camera's LCD when one or more fly right over my head... would have been a "perfect shot". :) I probably have plenty of decent enough shots of these large birds to make a separate collection of them.
