Kari! Glad to see that you are taking some time to play - though I warn you it can be addicting as that you will start seeing patterns/textures to place on everything:-) Back to the composition. I like this one over the other one posted. I do like the aged look overlay on the Flag - it gives a visual added dimension to the words "Old Glory". The Pledge just adds another appealing touch to the aged look of your 'postcard' composition.
Absolutly beautiful, kind of remains me this flag I saw, reflecting on the Vietnam Memorial wall. (I think I have a picture of it, I'll try to post it later)
I like the text too but what I think I would have done is do the text at a slightly lesser opacity and THEN do the texture so that it doesn't look like it's on top, but nonetheless. This is fabulous for a first try. Watch out. It is very addicting. :)
