Got 8 candles for it (it's always good to have a spare).
It's amazing the amount of time that these things take to burn, specially if you want them to burn fast!! I had to aid them with the extra candle, to get them almost to the end.
I arranged them on top of a plexiglass, used coloured paper for bottom and back, and a flash aiming at the ceiling, to try and avoid the shadows.

Fantastic image and perfect for this challenge. This is exposed perfectly, which is not easy to do with flames! I also love the rich tones and of course the concept.
Personally, I don't like the splotches of wax on the table. I get why it was done, in order to show the decrease in stature of the candles, but to me it is distracting. Because that is personal preference though, I won't deduct anything from the score. I will not be surprised at all to see this pretty high up top. 8
