Ow. Well, I'll admit to being part of the beating you got. I gave it a 4, which is my vote for a good effort that shows some knowledge and effort but still falls short in a major way. The lighting was the biggest problem for this, I think. I also think the shallow DOF was too shallow, and the angle didn't quite suite the composition. Hope that helps.
I think a deeper DOF would have made the vegetables and eggs more in focus, a different perspective would also make the photo pop just a little bit more
everything is very flat and doesn't show dimension at all, if you had built up various parts of the picture (staging them more like a display) then I think this would be more appealing...and your focus is very, very soft
