I took the original shot with a point and shoot camera, and was pleased.
Since then, i have bought myself a Nikon D40, and have 4 lenses, and an old xray box , which i took this on. For being 16, im pretty proud to have done this shot so much better then the original, which i took a year ago.

interesting interpretation. i like how the glass seems to be floating. i actually prefer the lighting and white balance of the original, plus that the apple skin is more prominent there too.
don't know why you didn't fix the flaw in the upper left of the picture above the wine glass...cause you have a wonderfully clear picture otherwise, and that is just distracting to me
I love the gradient background the best!!! Awesome smooth transition. And the glass stands out nicely. I think the skins might have used a bit more light though.
