THis is Charles from Birmingham, Alabama. He is disabled (in a wheelchair) and has been selling peanuts downtown for 37 years. He buys his peanuts from the Peanut Depot, which was in the background of my entry in the Peanuts challenge.
He is a very nice man and I am glad that I met him as part of this challenge.

Here is a shot for the crowd who feels that a blank expression better validates that this was actually a first meeting of a stranger, or that it better represents a "formal" portrait
I took this shot after I first approached him and asked for a photo. The shot that I entered was taken after we had talked for about 15 minutes and his real personality had emerged.
As for his peanut selling, he does not have a stand or anything. He just sits on the corner in his wheelchair with a small sack holding his bags of peanuts that he sells for $1 each. Most people just walk on by.
