This is the Victory Over America Palace. Construction started in 1997 and was paid for by the Oil for Food Program. Yes, this isn't food but dictators tend to do what they want. Saddam built this to signify his victory over America after the Persian Gulf War. However, I don't believe historians agree with Saddam's point of view. Either way, the US bombed it in 2003 -just because. It hasn't been touched since. Another interesting fact: the French designed this palace and were the general contractors.
