I wasted spent more time on this challenge than any since I started at DPC. I became obsessed. The idea is a B- idea so I wanted the photo to stand out to make it an A.
I shot for 2 days - The tripod is strung to a pipe in my basement using fishing line. I attached it at 3 points because I didn't wan it to move - turns out whenever I bumped it I had to wait 10 minutes for it to stop moving anyway.
I used a flashlight at first but the batteries died … uh yeah … how did that happen. So I ended up using a desk lamp and created a snoot using a PVC pipe and metal duct tape. I used a felt backdrop and the bag is resting omn a futon in the basement (where I covered the window for total darkness.
I'm, really hoping this is one of the better bag images and (pray) for top 10 for ImageNation!!! Or it could bomb and be a 5.5 dude to lame idea or bad processing.
Frankly, I will be bummed under a 6.
In processing I cloned out a zipper on the front. Darkened and desaturated the inside of the bag. Cloned out over highlited inside of bag (which had my iphone lighting it BTW - didn't really help much). Desatureatd much of the bag to make the streaks pop more. did some dodging and burning all over the place - really I wish the flash was brighter- but at this point I am limited to 30sec exposures w/ the d300 … what a joke!
