this is obviously a setup shot. However it was not as easy I as I had hoped. While I had a pretty clear picture of what I wanted, it took me two trips to the beach to get something resembling it. First, I did not anticipate the strong and gusty wind, the balloon just refused to fly high, and was jerking all over the place, so I had to literally hunt in high burst mode to catch a few split-second moments when it blocked the sun. Second, I did not have my own models, so I had to beg families with kids spending time at the beach to help me out. These good folks agreed (the boy got the balloon afterwards :)). I wish I could simply let them walk and catch the moment of the balloon blocking the sun, but because of that wind a successful catch would be very unlikely, so I asked them to stand pretending to be walking. I wish their poses were more natural, but this is as close as I could get, they are not trained professionals, and I could not torture them for too long. On the other hand, the very strangeness of their posturing is interesting, I came to like it eventually. They almost look like cutouts, don't they?
Here is an outtake where the boy is much more natural (he really is running and not pretending to be running, but of course the balloon is not eclipsing the sun
I like this photo equally if not more than the my submission, but I figured it would not score as high, so...
