Shell in a cookie tray covered in black felt with a little water on top. Bounced a flash off the ceiling to light the shell, then put a piece of tinfoil (with the music note cut out) behind the shell and put a flashlight behind the music note hole. I cloned the music note during post-processing and made them look like they are fading out. I wanted to do everything in the original photograph, but I had a hard enough time creating one music note, let alone more than a half dozen!
Call me crazy, but this reminds me of Disney's "The Little Mermaid" when Ariel has to sing and give her voice to the witch, who keeps the voice in a shell.
