Definitely one of my more memorable shoots from 2009 and maybe ever. My sister flew home from Austin TX to visit me under some poor circumstances. Her lifelong childhood friend passed away, so she came home for the funeral. While she was here we arranged a few shoots with some of her friends so I could help her build a portfolio for her work as a makeup artist. This is Rayna, a friend of my sister, who surprisingly had no modeling experience whatsoever. She did a fantastic job taking direction and was a true natural. Jenn (my sis) did the makeup.

Wow, what a spectacular image. You must have been beating up the "update" button all week with this splendid effort.
It was a tough challenge with the Best of the Best in it and in ordinary times, I feel sure this would have made the front page. It didn't but it did finish extraordinarily well with lots of comments and compliments.
I am pleased to have the opportunity to appreciate it again, and look forward to seeing more of your very fine work.
However, since "there is nothing to critique here" I guess I must move on to the next image in the queue.
Dramatic - great profile, excellent detailing, and I love your choice of composition and the way she's left staring into the negative space as if there's something wild going on there.
The lighting is just a tiny wee bit harsh & the way the light is reflected in the eye is a tad distracting. Otherwise , I love everything else about the image. 8
I love the light here. Not crazy about the negative space and how the light on her lower neck is separate from her face, almost making it look disconnected.
