I've had the white mask since November and wanted to use it in a small series of shots. Since it's the dead of winter now and we're sitting in the single digits, I noticed there was a Mardi Gras song title from Paul Simon and decided to use the mask(s) indoors for this challenge. The black mask is duct-taped to the white one from behind.
I used three flashes for this shot. Umbrella 90 degrees to the right; a snooted, blue gel'd flash 90 degrees to the left; and a scarlet gel'd flash behind the mask and facing to the right. I hung the mask off in front of a projection widescreen tv with a coat hanger. The tv screen has a soft, lined texture to it (probably to reduce glare) so I thought it would make a great background with the scarlet gel'd flash.
I probably should have softened the blue snooted flash because there's a sharp shadow just below the nose. Oh well.
I cloned out the hanger at the top and bits of lint and scratches on the masks. Other than preliminary tweaks in Camera Raw, I only added a vignette and sharpened it a little. That's it.
