He was my brother
Five years older than I
He was my brother
Twenty-three Years old the day he died
Freedom writer
They cursed my brother to his face
Go home outsider
This town's gonna be your buryin' place
He was singin' on his knees
An angry mob trailed along
They shot my brother dead
Because he hated what was wrong
He was my brother
Tears can't bnng him back to me
He was my brother
And he died so his brothers could be free
He died so his brothers could be free
This song was written in memory of Andrew Goodman, a fellow college student and civil rights activist, who was slain in 1964 by the Ku Klux Klan along with two other people.

This was shot through a store window. Some of it is reflection, some inside, some out. Most of the drawing was painted on the door (although I filled it in a bit). The picture was originally almost all red - paint and brick - and I processed it with curves and levels, basically.

This is where I read about the history of the song and it's a pretty good description of the incident which happened on June 21, 1964. Paul Simon recorded this song in 1965, according to many sites I found so I think it fits.
Oooooh ... I'm a little surprised anyone else even know of this song. I put the lyrics in my notes too, because I figured most people wouldn't know what it was about.
I didn't know it was specifically about Goodman (thanks for the info), though I know of another song (by Tom Paxton) called "Goodman and Schwerner and Cheney" about the same event.
Hmmm ... I wonder if it really is about Goodman, because the info I have is that the song is from 1963 -- if he was killed in 1964 that doesn't make much sense, unless Paul Simon is a prophet as well as a tunesmith ... or else some date info is wrong somewhere.
Getting mistaken for Cutout has got to make this a successful entry for you, regardless of the score! Originally I'd given this a 5, but bumped it to an 8 after it grew on me.
Coming back to this one. Does not look photographic in nature dur to the heavy PP, and I can't really tell what the figures are. (Cutouts, perhaps?) However, I can easily see something like this being used on an album cover, so I feel it suits the topic more than a lot of other entries. Bumping it up a couple of notches.
probably going to be too overprocessed for DPC (and you are going to get soooo sick of hearing that) .... I for one think this is a really good image though.
