Thank you for the wonderful comments!
I am very glad for this image, the ribbon and the incredibly high (really "Longtime Seeking") score!
I was lucky to have this artwork of umbrellas here in Thessaloniki, available for the specific challenge. The foggy day helped a lot as well.
The mood indeed reminds Theo Angelopoulos settings as said. But in my mind while taking this shot, were street photography images from nixter.
I know that I can't catch Nick's unique photographic eye and style but at least I tried hard with this one :)
Here are some outtakes:
The final choice was not easy, I liked a lot everyone of the above images. Don't know if they would considered so well though.

Followed your Life in the City Entry (congrats on the ribbon!) and found your photo that has stuck in my mind but could not remember who the photographer was. To me this captures a mood and feel of a quiet morning; a early stroll when the sights and sounds of the city is asleep so that one can take a stroll in quiet contemplation with only a lone dog as a companion. Love the B&W tones - and I am a sucker for a good umbrella shot (I love umbrellas - owning about 10 - used to be 11 but I lost that one somewhere )
Just beautiful!! Congrats on the blue. I think you made the right choice in which shot to submit. They are all lovely, but this one is especially nice!
Fantastically atmospheric shot! You have the artwork to include, yes but you have turned it into something more special by taking the shot in this weather and including the man and his dog. Perfect!
ahhh.... Luck, Timing and Skill..the perfect winning combo!!
very nicely done!! Love the balance in your composition, the man at the edge of the fence, his place in the frame...
Congrats on the BR!!
Oh how awesome that you had this right when this challenge was going on. My luck always finds the challenging happening the day it moves on :) You're right too: the fog just makes it all the more moody and amazing. Congratulatios for top honors!
I'm so sorry I couldn't vote, I was far from the internet in the holidays, but this shot is simply amazing!
Great semi-sepia feel, and just a perfect capture.
Absolutely brilliant. My only 10. When I saw this i said "This has to take the ble ribbon, anything else is a travesty!" Of course, at that time I hadn't seen many of the others, but I still felt the samew ay after voting them all :-)
What a sculpture. But most of all a very evocative image with the addition of the man and the dog. Love the image. I think the envelope border detracts rather than adds to it though.
Excellent atmospheric photo! The umbrellas are cool and beautiful. The fog keeps the backgroud clean and adds mood. The man and the dog are very nice for composition. The photo would be not so good without them. If the umbrellas are black, I would consider it a set in Theo Angelopoulos's movie.
I think this photo has the potential to be a classic, so I give it 10(and definitly my blue ribbon). This is my first time to give 10!
Love the melancholy and slightly surreal mood you captured here. I don't feel the thick top and bottom border works well for this image though. Should ribbon. 8
You are lucky to have this sculpture for this challenge
but that said your photograph is masterfully done
the man, dog and fog with the near monotone look all add to the overall effect
my only wish is for a foot of clearance above the top of the poles
my top score by a good margin
